Tata Steel Initiates Trial of Hydrogen Gas in Blast Furnace at Jamshedpur Plant
Tata Steel Limited has started the trial of injecting Hydrogen gas in blast furnace at its Jamshedpur plant in Jharkhand. This information was stated by Tata Steel in its press release dated 24th April 2023.
Tata Steel’s trial has the possibility of reducing 10% of coke rate, resulting in 7% to 10% reduction in carbon emission on each tonne of crude steel produced. The trial was started on 23rd April 2023 and will likely continue for 4-5 days.
Commenting on this trial, Mr. Uttam Singh, Vice President of Tata Steel said, “As we explore the potential of greener fuel injectants, we are excited to see the impact it can have on reducing fossil fuel consumption and CO2 emissions”
