Suzlon to Set up 300 MW Wind Power Project in Karnataka

Suzlon Group has won an order to develop a 300 MW wind power project from Mumbai-headquartered Apraava Energy Private Ltd. Suzlon Energy shared in its press release dated 28th December 2023 that this wind power project will be developed at Apraava’s site in Karnataka.

Suzlon will supply, install and commission 100 Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) of its S144 3 MW series at Apraava’s site. Each of these WTGs will have a hub height of 140m and a rated capacity of 3 MW. The company will install these turbines with a Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT)* tower, on which the WTGs will be mounted. Further, Suzlon will also provide Operation and Maintenance (O&M) services after the commissioning of this project.

Mr. J.P Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, highlighted that these turbines will be manufactured in India. Speaking of Apraava’s project, he added, “While the project itself is part of the SECI (tranche XIV) auction, the electricity generated from this project will be used to support Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (UPPCL) to increase the reach of renewable energy in the country”.

*A Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) tower is used to mount wind turbine generator to the desired height. It consists of three components, namely a lattice tower, transition piece, and the tubular tower. The lattice tower is assembled on-site by welding steel profiles just above the foundation of the HLT tower, while the tubular tower forms the top part of the HLT tower. These two sections of the HLT tower are connected by means of a transition piece.
