Singareni Collieries and Altmin Sign Rs. 2,250 Cr. MoU for Lithium Refinery

Singareni Collieries Company Ltd. (SCCL) and Altmin Pvt. Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for developing India’s first large-scale Lithium refinery in Telangana. This refinery will be set up with an investment of Rs. 2,250 crore.

Development of this project will be done via a Joint Venture (JV) between SCCL—owned by the Indian Government and Telangana government—and Altmin. This refinery will have a capacity of 30,000 Tonnes Per Annum (TPA). The companies expect this battery-grade Lithium refinery to be operational by 2027.

Battery-grade Lithium is essential for various segments, including electric vehicles, portable electronics, and Energy Storage Systems (ESS).

India is heavily dependent on imports for Lithium-ion cells. With this project, a supply of battery-grade Lithium will be established, curbing foreign dependence and also helping satiate India’s growing demands.
