Sanjay Banga Appointed MD & CEO of Tata Power Renewable Energy

Tata Power has appointed Mr. Sanjay Banga as new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), with effect from 1st June 2025.

Mr. Sanjay Banga completed Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electrical Engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra in 1989. Then, he pursued Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi. He also completed a senior executive leadership program from Harvard Business School in 2018. In 2021, Mr. Banga completed advanced management program from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.

Mr. Banga started his career with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) as an Engineer Trainee, and his work responsibilities included operation & commissioning of Super Thermal Power Projects (STPPs) from 1989 to 1995. Later in 1996, he joined Reliance Energy. In 2016, Mr. Sanjay joined Tata Power-Delhi Distribution Ltd. (Tata Power-DDL) as its Vice President and served the position for more than 2 years. He was promoted to CEO of the company in 2018.

Currently, Mr. Banga is the President of Tata Power’s T&D business, and he has held this position since 2019. He is also Chairman of the board at Tata Power Trading Company Limited.
