Rashtriya Chemicals Awards ₹797 Cr Ammonia Revamp Order to L&T
Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (RCF) Limited has awarded Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) a Rs. 797 crore order to revamp company’s Ammonia plant in Thal, Maharashtra.
RCF to Conserve 0.40 Gcal/MT of Ammonia After Revamp
Under this contract, L&T will undertake detailed engineering, equipment manufacturing, supply, civil construction, erection, commissioning, and performance guarantee test runs. The primary objective of revamping RCF’s Ammonia Plant is to reduce specific energy consumption.
Upon project completion, the company expects to conserve 0.40 Gigacalories per Metric Ton (Gcal/MT) of Ammonia produced. RCF said that this energy-saving scheme was suggested by Denmark-based Topsoe A/S, a technology supplier to company’s Ammonia plant at Thal.
Earlier in 2024, RCF had awarded Topsoe a Rs. 514.6 crore contract for supply of basic engineering design package (BEDP), proprietary equipment, and catalysts for the revamp. This design is now being implemented by L&T under the latest order.
Rashtriya Chemicals’ Ongoing Expansion at Thal Complex
Rashtriya Chemicals, at its Thal unit, is setting up a Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium (NPK) fertilizer plant. The company awarded this project, valued at Rs. 1,494 crore, to L&T on Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK) basis in October 2024. This NPK fertilizer plant will boast a capacity of 1,200 Metric Tonnes Per Day (MTPD). The project is targeted to complete by March 2027.
Further, RCF’s board, in February 2026, approved Rs. 865.25 crore for setting up a Phosphoric Acid Plant, i.e., a key raw material for company’s upcoming NPK fertilizer plant. This plant will have a capacity of 300 MTPD.
