Panasonic to Exit Washing Machines and Refrigerators Segment in India
Panasonic will be exiting washing machines and refrigerators segment in India, as per several recent media reports. The company will be shutting its production line for these products at its Jhajjar plant in Haryana.
Panasonic’s market share in the Indian washing ,machines and refrigerators segment is very limited. As per Gfk Data, a market research firm, Panasonic holds merely 1.8% of India’s washing machines market share and 0.8% of the country’s refrigerators market share.
Looking ahead, Panasonic will focus on its home automation, residential & commercial air conditioners, LED TVs, microwaves and other electrical products. In fact, in April 2025, Mr. Manish Sharma, Chairman of Panasonic Life Solutions India and South Asia, had said that the company is targeting to increase its market share in the AC segment to 10% from the current 7.5% in the next three years. This indicates that the company will continue to focus on its electrical appliances portfolio except washing machines and refrigerators.
Media reports also mention that the company will be laying off several employees following its decision to quit washing machine and refrigerator production.
