Odisha Govt. Clears Major Projects: AM/NS, Avaada, ACME Proposals Get Nod
Odisha Government’s High-Level Clearance Authority (HCLA) has cleared multiple projects with a cumulative value of about Rs. 1.53 lakh crore. These include project proposals of steel industry giant ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS), clean energy majors, Avaada Green H2 Pvt. Ltd. and ACME Clean Energy Pvt. Ltd.
ArcelorMittal Nippol Steel’ Rs. 38,000 Cr. Integrated Steel Plant Gets Odisha Govt’s Approval
One of the major proposals to be approved by Odisha’s HCLA is ArcelorMittal’s planned 7 Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) integrated Steel plant(ISP) in Jagatsinghpur district of the state. This project is to come up with an estimated cost of Rs. 38,000 crore and will generate about 11,000 jobs.
Jagatsinghpur Plant to be AM/NS’ Second Recent Major Investment in Odisha
The aforementioned upcoming steel plant in Jagatsinghpur is ArcelorMittal’s second recent major investment in Odisha. The Odisha HCLA had earlier in December 2021 cleared the company’s 24 MMTPA integrated Steel plant in Kendrapara, Odisha. This upcoming plant entails an investment of about Rs. 1.02 lakh crore and will produce various grades of steel and value-added products.
Expansion of Rungta Metal’s Integrated Steel Plant Approved
Rungta Metals Pvt. Ltd.’s (RMPL) expansion of its integrated Steel plant at Rairangpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district was approved by the HLCA. This expansion, which will be done with an investment of Rs. 1,440 crore, targets the capacity addition of 0.5 MMTPA to RMPL’s existing steel plant. Post this expansion, the steel production capacity of the plant will be enhanced to 1 MMTPA.
Four Clean Energy Proposals Accorded Approval by Odisha HLCA
Four project proposals in the clean energy segment were given the go-ahead by Odisha’s HCLA.
These projects include ACME Clean Energy’s proposal for a Green Hydrogen plant with a production capacity of 1.1 MMTPA at Kujanga, Jagatsinghpur. This project will be set up with an estimated investment of Rs. 58,209 crore, and will create employment opportunities for about 3,400 people. Solar power facilities of 4,500 MW capacity will be set up in Odisha’s Koraput and Kalahandi districts for captive use of ACME’s upcoming Green Hydrogen plant.
Avaada Green H2’s project proposal for a plant in Ganjam district of Odisha, which entails an investment of Rs. 23,500 crore, was also approved.
Green Ammonia plant proposals by Renew EFuels Private Ltd. (REFPL) and Ocior Energy Private Limited (OEPL) have also been approved. While REFPL’s plant will have a production capacity of 1.09 MMTPA, OEPL’s project will produce 1 MMT of Green Ammonia annually. Together, these two Green Ammonia projects are expected to generate 3,300 employment opportunities.
