Mitsubishi Inaugurates Industrial Automation Products Factory in Maharashtra

Mitsubishi Electric India Pvt. Ltd. has inaugurated its manufacturing plant for Industrial Automation Products at Badhalawadi village near Talegaon in Maharashtra. This facility was inaugurated on 8th December 2023 with an investment of over Rs 220 crore.

Mitsubishi Electric’s plant was inaugurated by Mr. Hisahiro Nishimoto, Group Vice President, Industry and Mobility Area (IMBA), of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Japan and Mr. Tomohiro Yoshida, Director and Factory Automation Division Head of Mitsubishi Electric India.

Mitsubishi’s New Plant to Produce Frequency Drives, Inverters & Controllers

Mitsubishi’s newly opened plant in Maharashtra will focus on production of a range of industrial automation and control products, including variable frequency drives, inverters, and controllers. The facility will manufacture Mitsubishi Electric’s FR-A800, FR-D700, and FR-E700 frequency drives. Apart from this, the plant will also produce Modular I/O, Graphic Operation Controller (GOC) 35, and GOC 43 controllers from Mitsubishi Electric.

Mitsubishi Electric’s Badhalawadi facility has a built-up area of 15,400 sq.m and is spread over 40,000 square meters of land. This facility is expected to begin operations in January 2024.

Commenting on this development, Mr. Hisahiro Nishimoto, said, “The initial investment is around Rs 2.2 billion. But will increase our investment as we expand our facility. This new facility in Talegaon will be the centre for our FA manufacturing facility, so expansion investments will be revolving around this place“.

Mitsubishi’s Automation Factory Creates 500 Job Opportunities

Mitsubishi’s factory is anticipated to generate employment opportunities for approximately 500 people, with 100 positions already filled mainly by locals.

Regarding the employment opportunities the facility offers, Mr. Yoshida said, ” We have a few Japanese expats, but most of the people are from Pune. We are going to add more products to be manufactured from this facility. We will start with 100 people on board now and gradually scale it up as we add more products to manufacture. We can go up to 500 people, over a period of time, as we keep adding more products to this manufacturing facility“.

Moving from Imports to Local Production – Mitsubishi Electric India Director

Mr. Yoshida stated that the inauguration of the aforementioned facility is a step towards encouraging domestic production of factory automation products and will be helpful in reducing imports of the same. He added that local manufacturing can lead to cost reductions due to decreased transportation expenses, import duties, and other import-related costs.
