L&T is the L1 Bidder for Mumbai’s Orange Gate-Marine Drive Tunnel Project

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has emerged as the Lowest (L1) bidder under a tender floated by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in June 2023 for the development of a tunnel project of 4.46 Km length in Mumbai. L&T had placed a bid of Rs. 6,717.53 crore for the project.

Scope of work in this project entails the construction of twin tunnels connecting the southern terminal of Mumbai’s Coastal Road Project (MCRP) at Marine Drive to southern terminal of Mumbai’s Eastern Freeway at Orange Gate. Each of these tunnels will have two 3.2 metre-wide lanes. These tunnels will have a design speed of 80 Kmph and will be developed using cut and cover method. Two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) will be deployed for building this project.

Second-lowest bidder (L2 bidder) for this project was J Kumar Infraprojects – NCC Joint Venture (JV), which had placed a bid of Rs. 7,414.94 crore.
