JSW Energy Commissions India’s Largest Green H2 Plant
JSW Energy Ltd. successfully commissioned India’s largest Green Hydrogen manufacturing plant yet in Vijaynagar, Karnataka.
JSW Energy’s Green H2 plant will produce 3,800 tons per annum (TPA) of Green Hydrogen and 30,000 TPA of Oxygen. The plant will supply Green H2 and O2 to JSW Steel’s Vijaynagar plant under a seven-year offtake agreement. Green Hydrogen will be supplied directly to the Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) unit at JSW Steel’s plant for low-carbon Steel production.
Mr. Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and CEO, JSW Energy, said, “[This] project is a key milestone in our country’s clean energy journey and reflects our unwavering commitment to support India’s transition toward a low-carbon economy and decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors such as Steel.” This project is in line with a June 2024 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which had been signed between JSW Energy and JSW Steel to ramp up supply of Green Hydrogen to 85,000-95,000 TPA and Green Oxygen to 720,000 TPA by 2030.
JSW Energy has set 2050 as its deadline for achieving carbon net neutrality. Additionally, the company targets to reach 30 GW of operational energy generation capacity, and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by FY30. Currently, JSW Energy’s portfolio comprises 13.3 GW of operational energy generation projects, and 29.4 GWh of (operational as well as planned) Energy Storage System (ESS) projects.
