Belden Inaugurates Customer Innovation Centre in India, Invests Rs. 100 Cr.

Belden Inc., Missouri-headquartered cable manufacturer, connectivity & automation solutions provider, inaugurated a Customer Innovation Centre (CIC) in Bengaluru on 11th January 2024, with an investment of Rs. 100 crore. This newly opened CIC is the company’s first such facility in India, and fifth globally after Belden’s CICs in Stuttgart, Santa Clara, Shanghai and Chicago.

Speaking at the launch of Bengaluru’s Customer Innovation Centre, Dr. Ashish Chand, President and CEO of Belden, said, “We are excited to expand our Customer Innovation Centre network with the launch of our Bengaluru facility“. He further addressed the evolving needs of automation and smart infrastructure in India. “This centre in Bengaluru reflects Belden’s dedication to investing in solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers in India“, he added.

Belden’s CIC to Offer Customised Industrial Automation Solutions

Belden’s CIC will focus on developing and testing industrial automation & smart infrastructure solutions, which will be customised as per the customers’ needs. Dr. Ashish Chand, explained that this CIC will initially cater to customers from the petrochemical, transportation and energy distribution sectors, and thereafter address the robotics industry as well. “These are a big focus area for us because the networks and the data integration systems that are needed to manage those facilities are very complex”, added Dr. Chand.

This CIC is spread over an area of about 15,000 square feet, and will serve as a hub for ‘co-innovation’ between Belden, its customers, and partners.

Belden’s release pertaining to the inauguration of this CIC said, “The centre will focus on key business goals such as innovation, customization, digitization and providing a space where solutions can be crafted and validated onsite to simulate real-world challenges”.

Bengaluru CIC’s Workforce to Triple in 2 Years

Currently staffed by 30-40 individuals, Belden’s Bengaluru CIC will expand its staff to 150 within the next 18-24 months which aligns with Belden’s growth plans in India.

Belden’s India Growth Driven by Metro & Power Distribution Projects

In an interview with Business World Dr. Ashish Chand mentioned that Belden’s India business currently accounts for approximately 2-3% of Belden’s global revenue, however the Indian business has been growing at an impressive 35% CAGR over the last three years, which is above the global average.

Belden’s business in India is growing rapidly because of numerous metro projects and the ongoing transition in the power distribution and management sector, focusing on upgrading telecom technology to Internet Protocol (IP) or Multi-Protocol Label Switching – Transport Profile (MPLS TP) technology, and advancements in airports.
