ABB to Invest USD 75 Mn in India on Manufacturing, R&D

ABB has announced a USD 75 million investment in India to expand its manufacturing footprint and Research and Development (R&D) capabilities. The investment will be spread across the company’s facilities in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Nashik, and Vadodara and will support growth in its electrification, motion, and automation businesses. This expansion is also expected to create more than 300 jobs in engineering, operations, and research.
Bengaluru to Receive Major Share of ABB’s Investment
The company has selected several locations for the investment; however, the major portion will be allocated to Bengaluru. ABB will invest USD 14 million in its two Nelamangala campus facilities. At Campus 1, the company is expanding production capabilities and preparing for the launch of new technology ranges in 2026, including advanced electrical protection and enclosure solutions.
At Campus 2, the company has planned a tenfold expansion in production capacity for uninterruptible power supply solutions, along with dedicated R&D facilities. This campus will house advanced rectifier manufacturing, excitation and blending systems, and an integrated gas analyzer systems facility.
In addition to the Nelamangala investment, ABB will invest USD 21 million in its Peenya operations to expand manufacturing capacity. Through this investment, the company will focus on increasing production of low-voltage drives and specialised motors such as flameproof (Ex) motors, roller-table motors, and large smoke-venting motors.
ABB to Expand Circuit Breaker Manufacturing in Nashik
Apart from Bengaluru, the company will also invest in Nashik. ABB is expanding its Nashik plant with a USD 22 million investment to produce indoor and outdoor circuit breakers. In addition, the facility will include an expanded Vacuum Interrupter (VI) factory.
This expansion will also support the localisation of 33 KV Primary Gas Insulated Switchgear and the development of new Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6)-free technologies by 2028. SF6-free technologies are sustainable alternatives to SF6 gas in electrical switchgear, utilizing clean air, vacuum, or specialized gas mixtures to eliminate high global warming potential emissions.
New R&D and Office Facility Planned in Hyderabad
In Hyderabad, ABB is developing a multi-phase laboratory and office project with an investment of USD 12 million. In Phase 1, the focus will be on developing the office facility, while Phase 2 will involve developing a multi-phase laboratory. This hub will house R&D and engineering teams.
ABB’s Manufacturing Expansion in Vadodara
ABB will also invest USD 6 million to expand its manufacturing footprint in Vadodara. The company will focus on scaling up its slow-speed synchronous generators facility and increasing the capacity of the induction motors factory.
