Hitachi Energy India Enters BESS Market with Order in Andhra Pradesh

Hitachi Energy India Limited has entered the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market with an order to develop a 165 MW / 330 MWh BESS project in Andhra Pradesh. The company shared this information in a stock filing dated 7th August 2026.

Under the scope of the order, Hitachi Energy India will develop a 165 MW / 330 MWh BESS project in Andhra Pradesh. However, the company has not disclosed the value or completion period of this contract.

Highlighting the significance of the project and the growing demand for energy storage, Hitachi Energy mentioned in its press release, “With the government focused on capacity expansion and optimization for assimilation of power into the grid, we expect the growth momentum in the energy storage segment to continue”.

India has set a target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power generation capacity by 2030. Large-scale BESS projects, such as Hitachi Energy India’s 165 MW / 330 MWh system, can help store electricity generated from renewable sources such as solar and wind and supply it to the grid when demand rises. This can support grid stability while improving the utilization of renewable energy.
