HFCL Secures Long-Term Overseas Optical Fibre Cables Supply Order
Himachal Futuristic Communications Ltd. (HFCL) has signed a contract with a global multinational company under which HFCL will supply Optical Fibre Cables (OFCs) via its overseas wholly-owned subsidiary. The company stated that the potential value of this contract is around USD 1.10 billion (approx. Rs. 10,159 crore).
The newly received contract has a tenure of five years, where the company will supply multi-million fibre kilometres (fkm) of high-quality, high-fibre-count OFC. These OFCs will be supplied as per project and customer requirements. HFCL will begin supplying cables between 2026 and 2028. Upon completion of the initial term, the contract will automatically extend by two additional years, covering 2029 and 2030.
Furthermore, HFCL mentioned that this order is significant as it is the ‘first instance in the Company’s history of entering into a long-term, multi-year OFC supply arrangement of this nature.’
To enhance its operational efficiency and ability to meet rising global and domestic OFC demands, HFCL envisages an increase in its Optical Fibre manufacturing capacity. Such can be seen in its expansion plans to increase Optical Fibre manufacturing capacity to 33.9 million fibre-kilometres by December 2026 from currently 28 million fibre-kilometres per annum.
