LAPP Launches ÖLFLEX HEAT 700 SC Extreme Heat Resistant Cable

LAPP, a prominent cable manufacturer, has launched the latest addition to its well-known ÖLFLEX series, namely ÖLFLEX HEAT 700 SC.
ÖLFLEX HEAT 700 SC is a single-core unshielded heat resistant cable, which can withstand ambient temperature of up to 700 degree Celsius. This makes it suitable for use in extreme conditions such as near blast furnaces, coke mills, oil refineries, Aluminium plants and Steel plants, glassworks, etc.
Improvement on LAPP’s Previous Cable in the Same Category
ÖLFLEX HEAT 700 SC is a single-core cable, whose core is composed of fine stranded Copper. Each strand of Copper in this cable is plated with Nickel. This is the distinguishing feature from this cable’s predecessor, namely ÖLFLEX HEAT 650 SC cable, which has stranded Nickel as the conductor.
As per LAPP’s website, Nickel-plated Copper conductor helps achieve “…better electrical conductivity, higher dielectric strength [compared to Nickel conductor] and also allows smaller conductor cross-sections to be selected”.
ÖLFLEX HEAT 700 SC is compliant with EN IEC 60228, class 5 standard for conductors in flexible cables. As for insulation, for cross-sections between 0.5 sq.mm to 10 sq. mm, multiple layers of glass fibre are used, whereas for cross-sections equal to or above 16 sq.mm, multiple layers of mica tape are used.
Outer sheath of the ÖLFLEX HEAT 700 SC cable is composed of braided glass fibre. Describing the new cable, Felix Graner, Product Manager at LAPP, said, “The interplay of both factors, that is the strands and the insulation, makes the temperature peak shift possible [from 650 degrees Celsius for ÖLFLEX HEAT 650 SC, to 700 degrees Celsius for ÖLFLEX HEAT 700 SC]”.
Properties of ÖLFLEX HEAT 700 SC Cable
ÖLFLEX HEAT 700 SC can withstand ambient temperatures ranging from -50 degrees to +700 degrees Celsius. As for this flame retardant cable’s fire condition performance, it conforms to IEC 60332-1-2 standard. LAPP’s newly launched cable is halogen free, making it suitable for installation in fire-prone environments. However, this cable is not resistant to water or oil.
LAPP’s new cable has been designed to function at 300/500 V, and has been tested at 2,000 V.
Moreover, ÖLFLEX HEAT 700 SC is CE certified and UKCA (United Kingdom Conformity Assessed) marked. This cable also conforms to EU-Directive 2014/35/EU.
