Tata Motors Breaks Ground for Rs. 9,000 Cr. Plant in Tamil Nadu

Tata Motors held the groundbreaking ceremony on 28th September 2024 for its greenfield manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu’s Panapakkam. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mr. M.K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and Mr. N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons & Tata Motors.

Plant to Serve Indian & Global Markets, Roll Out Over 2.5 Lakh Vehicles Yearly

Tata Motors’ Panapakkam plant will manufacture vehicles for Indian as well as global markets, which will include SUVs and cars for Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). The new plant will have an annual production capacity of 2,50,000 vehicles, which will be attained in a phased manner. The company stated in its release that Panapakkam plant will attain its full manufacturing capacity in the ‘next 5-7 years.

Mr. Chandrasekaran added, “We are pleased to make Panapakkam as the home of our next generation of cars and SUVs, including electric and luxury vehicles…We now intend to build our advanced vehicle manufacturing plant here using cutting-edge manufacturing technology and world-class sustainability practices”.

Tata’s New Plant to use 100% RE for Manufacturing, Create 5,000 Jobs

Tata Motor’s upcoming plant will run completely on Renewable Energy (RE), and will be “…guided by principles of sustainability”. Tata Motor’s release stated that its Panapakkam plant “…has the potential to create over 5,000 employment opportunities”, which include both direct and indirect jobs. Mr. Chandrasekaran also mentioned that the company targets to have a “high share of women employees across levels”.
