Raj Kumar Chaudhary Appointed as Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC
Mr. Raj Kumar Chaudhary has taken over as the Chairman and Managing Director of NHPC Limited on 7th August 2024. He held the position of Director (Technical) at NHPC before this appointment.
Mr. Chaudhary is a graduate in Civil Engineering from BIT Sindri and a Fellow member of Institution of Engineers of India. Mr. Chaudhary started his career in 1989 as a Probationary Executive (Civil), NHPC at Koel Karo Hydroelectric Project in Jharkhand. He has gained experience in various roles, such as Construction, Investigation, Contractual Matters, Costing, and Designing. He has worked on several major hydroelectric projects, including Koel Karo, Kalpong, Teesta-V, and Subansiri Lower. He was the Director (Technical) for projects in Bhutan, namely, Mangdechhu and Punatsangchhu-II.
One of Mr. Chaudhary’s key contributions to NHPC was the completion of the Kalpong Hydroelectric Project in Andaman and Nicobar Islands 16 months before its stipulated deadline. He played an important role in commissioning the 510 MW Teesta-V Hydroelectric Project, Sikkim, and the 720 MW Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan. Apart from this, Mr. Chaudhary undertook key role in the repair of Head Race Tunnel of the 1,020 MW Tala Hydroelectric Project, Bhutan.
Mr. Chaurdhary is currently also serving as a Nominee Director at Ratle Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited, a joint venture of Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Limited (JKSPDC) and NHPC.
