Bajel Projects Logo

Bajel Projects Ltd. has secured its largest single order in Power Transmission business of over Rs. 700 crore. This order, secured from Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd. (MSETCL), is for establishing a greenfield 400/220 KV Air-Insulated Switchgear (AIS) Substation at Saswad District in Pune, Maharashtra.

Technical Scope of MSETCL’s 400/220 KV AIS Pune Substation

Bajel Projects will handle all Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) works and execute the project on a complete turnkey basis. The project scope pertains to the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of the AIS substation and all 400 & 220 KV transmission lines accompanying it.

The substation will be equipped with 2 units of 500 MVA power transformers and 400/220 KV AIS, 1 unit of 125 MVAr bus reactor, all designed for the 400 KV volatge level.

Also, 2 units of 400 KV Interconnecting Transformers (ICT) bays, 2 units of 220 KV ICT bays, 4 units of 400 KV line bays, 8 units of 220 KV line bays, and 1 unit of 400 KV reactor are included in the project.

Additionally, the design will include future space provision for 1 unit of 400/220 KV, 500 MVA, ICT, 1 unit of 400 KV ICT bays, and 1 unit of 220 KV ICT bays.

Bajel Projects to Integrate Saswad AIS Substation into Maharashtra Grid

Connecting Saswad Substation with Three Other Substations

Furthermore, the scope includes bay additions at upcoming 765 KV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Pune-III, and existing 220 KV AIS, and 220 KV Nanded AIS substations. This will seamlessly integrate the upcoming Saswad facility into the Maharashtra grid.

Transmission Line Works: LILO and D/C Lines

For transmission line works, Bajel Projects will implement Line-In Line-Out (LILO)* configuration on existing 400 KV Single Circuit (S/C) line from 400 KV AIS Lonikand-I to 400 KV GIS Koyna at the upcoming 400 KV AIS Saswad. Also, the company will implement LILO configurations on both existing circuits of 400 KV AIS Jejuri to 220 KV AIS Phursungi Double-Circuit (D/C) 220 KV line at upcoming 400 kV AIS Saswad. Using LILO configurations will help reduce the overall infrastructure cost.

*Line-In Line-Out (LILO ) configuration is a configuration where an existing transmission line is “tapped” by cutting the circuit and routing it through a new substation.

In addition, the project includes the construction of a 400 KV D/C line to link the new Saswad substation with the upcoming 765 KV Pune-III GIS substation.

The construction of the scope shall be completed in 23 months from the date of issuance of order.

Saswad Substation to Scale-Up Pune’s Power Evacuation Capacity

Rajesh Ganesh, Managing Director & CEO, Bajel Projects Limited, said, A 400/220 kV substation of this scale in the Pune district is critical infrastructure that will strengthen Maharashtra’s transmission network and support the region’s growing industrial and urban power demand.

Bajel Projects’ press release highlighted the strategic importance of this project’s location, i.e., Pune district, which is going through rapid industrialization. As such, the Saswad substation will help the region by raising its power evacuation capacity and reinforcing grid reliability across the state.
